Game Day Gate, Ticket, and Parking Banner Kit for Athletics
By Jordan Hale, Editor, School Signs FastShare
An operations sign kit for athletic directors, event managers, and booster clubs running home games.
The first ten minutes of a home game happen before anyone sees the field. Families circle the lot looking for parking. Visiting fans line up at the wrong gate. The ticket line blocks the walkway. The visiting team's bus has nowhere to go.
None of that is a spirit problem. It's an operations problem, and signs solve a lot of it. Build a reusable game day kit for the parts of the night that happen outside the fence: parking, bus drop, ticket lines, gate entry, and the way out.
Start with Game day fence banners, then add School A-frame signs and School yard signs for the lot and lines.
Check first: Parking rules, fire lanes, accessible parking, and anything on a public street belong to your facilities team, district safety staff, and local authorities. Your signs point people to the plan they approve. Don't place signs in fire lanes or where they block official signs.
Why a separate ops kit
Spirit banners make the stadium look like home. Ops signs make it work. They have different jobs, different placements, and different rules:
- Ops signs have to be readable from a moving car or a crowded line
- They need to be the same every game, so regulars learn them
- Only a few details change weekly, like times and gate assignments, so those go on swappable panels
For the stadium's spirit and identity kit, see High School Football Banner Ideas.
Zone 1: The approach
Get cars into the right lot before they reach the busy part of campus.
- School feather flags at each lot entrance so drivers spot them from the road. Spike base on grass, X base on pavement
- School yard signs at each turn: "Game Parking →," "Home Parking," "Visitor Parking"
- A vinyl banner on the entry fence: "Home of the Bulldogs / Game Parking"
Place signs before the turn, not at it.
Zone 2: Parking lots
Big nights fill lots in minutes. Help drivers and parking volunteers.
- A-frames at each lot entrance showing lot names or letters: "Lot A," "Lot B"
- "Lot Full, Use Lot C →" as a spare A-frame panel volunteers can swap in
- Yard signs marking overflow parking on grass, if facilities allows it
- Signs pointing to the accessible entrance the school designates
Official accessible parking signs stay as facilities has them. Your signs only point the way.
Zone 3: Team buses and officials
Visiting teams and officials need their own way in, away from the crowd.
- A-frame at the lot entrance: "Team Buses →"
- A-frame at the drop point: "Visiting Team Drop-Off"
- A-frame or small vinyl panel at the officials' parking or entrance
Coordinate with your event manager so the bus route doesn't cross the main pedestrian flow.
Zone 4: Ticket lines
Ticket lines are where games start late. Clear signs keep them moving.
- An A-frame at the start of each line: "Tickets," "Digital Tickets," or "Passes and Will Call," using the options your athletic office offers
- A vinyl banner on the ticket booth or table: "Tickets" in big type
- A-frames marking where the line should form, so it doesn't block walkways
Keep payment details and times on A-frame panels, not on permanent banners, since they change. Ticket policies and pricing come from your athletic office.

Zone 5: Gate entry
The gate is where your school's entry rules meet the crowd.
- A vinyl banner over or beside each gate: "Home Gate," "Visitor Gate," "Student Gate"
- An A-frame just before the gate listing your school's entry policy, such as bag rules or re-entry, in the exact wording the district approves
- An A-frame for "Student ID Required" or other student entry steps, if your school uses them
Print your own policy word for word. Don't copy another school's rules.
Zone 6: Inside the gate
Once people are in, help them find their side and the basics.
- Yard signs or A-frames: "Home Side →," "Visitor Side →"
- "Concessions," "Restrooms," and "First Aid" at the splits
- A-frame at the student section entrance if it has its own rules
Zone 7: The way out
The end of the game is when everyone leaves at once.
- A-frames at the gates: "Exit to Lots A–B →," "Exit to Lot C →"
- Flip A-frame panels at halftime from entry messages to exit messages, if your crew plans for it

Design rules for ops signs
- Few words, huge type, one arrow style
- The same lot names, gate names, and terms on every sign, on the website, and in announcements
- School colors on every sign, with one high-contrast color reserved for directions
- Permanent names on banners, changing details on A-frame panels
More on A-frame placement in A-Frame Signs 101.
Build the kit once, use it all year
The same kit works for football, soccer, basketball, volleyball, and graduation. Change the panel, not the sign.
- Store A-frames with labeled panel sets: football, basketball, playoffs, graduation
- Keep a site map showing where each sign goes, taped inside the storage bin lid
- Assign a sign crew to set up before gates open and pull signs after
For big nights like homecoming, playoffs, and rivalry games, add a few extra A-frames for overflow parking and a second ticket line. Seasonal hype ideas: Homecoming and Spirit Week Signage Ideas.
School scenarios
Two gates, one crowd. Visiting fans kept lining up at the home gate. Big "Home Gate" and "Visitor Gate" vinyl banners, plus yard signs from the visitor lot, split the crowd before it reached the fence.
Ticket line in the walkway. A-frames marking where the line forms moved it off the main path.
Homecoming overflow. Lots filled early. Volunteers swapped in "Lot Full, Use Lot C →" panels and staked yard signs to the grass overflow facilities had approved.
Visiting buses in the crowd. A "Team Buses →" A-frame at the lot entrance sent buses to the back drop point.
